In 2007, Sri Lanka's first uninterrupted 24-hour Sinhala movie channel, 'City Hitz was established. [6] In 2008, Dialog TV launched ‘Channel C’, the first-ever 24-hour local music channel. [7] A software upgrade was tested on 8 June, although it only updated to the June 1, 2006 software, which is included on all decoders sold from January 2007.
Dialog was the first mobile operator to cover the Jaffna peninsula in Northern Sri Lanka within 90 days of the ceasefire agreement in 2002 [10] and again in 2009 was the first mobile operator to extend its GSM network to the areas in the North and East Province where the war was fought, [10] and presently has 80% market share in the region.

A fully owned subsidiary of DishTV India, Dish TV Sri Lanka was launched in 2015. [1] However, the company ceased its operations in Sri Lanka due to heavy losses in 2019. Few channels were aired as Free To Air after disputes raised by its users for the sudden shutdown of services until July 2020 when the service was completely shutdown.
Sri Lanka's second state-owned TV station - Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) - was established by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Act No. 6 of 1982. TNL TV is an English and Sinhala-language television station in Sri Lanka, owned by Telshan Network. Launched in 1993, TNL TV was one of Sri Lanka's first privately owned television channels. Shan Wickremesinghe, the chairman of Telshan Network, is the brother of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), formerly Radio Ceylon, is the oldest radio station in Asia, and was founded as Colombo Radio in 1925. Edward Harper who was then the Chief Engineer at the Telegraph Department in 1921, was the first person who initiated experimental broadcasts in Ceylon.
