Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy (SACA) is a preschool to 12th grade private Christian school in southwestern Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Geraldine Thompson is the headmistress and is the wife to Pastor Wayne C. Thompson. Pastor Thompson is the founder of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
Westminster has received the Georgia Athletic Directors' Association Director's Cup in its respective classification in 17 of the 18 years it has been awarded, 2000–2008 and 2010–2017. [11] The varsity boys' tennis team won the Georgia State High School AAA State Championship in ten seasons in a row, 1999–2009.
The school opened in 1923 as an Elementary School. [3] It became a high school in 1948. [2] The school was named for David T. Howard, a former slave who owned Atlanta's largest black-owned undertaking business and founded its first African American owned bank. He was a noted philanthropist, particularly focused on educating children.
Pace Academy was founded in Atlanta in 1959 in response to the successful challenge of Atlanta Public Schools' segregationist policies in federal court. Pace Academy was founded as a de facto all-white school and was among the private schools attended by white children whose parents did not want them going to public schools with African-Americans.
The organization of the schools was a traditional 8-4 arrangement which consisted of 8 years of grammar school for students aged 6 to 14, and 4 years of high school for students aged 14–18. [19] The grades began at eighth for first year students, and students progressed through to the first grade as year eight students of grammar school.
