The Renton Public Library is the King County Library System (KCLS) branch library in Renton, Washington, in the United States.It was a city library between its construction in 1966 and 2010, when it was one of the last three non-KCLS members in the county outside of Seattle and it was incorporated into KCLS after what may have been "the most contentious annexation fight in the system's 71 years".
KCLS annexed Renton's public library system in 2010 following a vote by the city's residents. [9] In 2011, KCLS won the Gale/Library Journal "Library of the Year" award. [3] The library eliminated its late fines in 2023 after finding it discouraged borrowing and cost more to collect and process. Replacement fees were instead levied for lost items.
The Renton Public Library was built directly over the Cedar River and opened in 1966. It stretches 80 feet (24 m) across the river, next to Liberty Park, and was the main branch of the city's independent library system until its 2010 annexation into the King County Library system.
