The Cathedral of Saint Ignatius of Loyola (Latin: Cathedralis Nationalem de Sciamhævensis in Sinis, Chinese: 圣依纳爵主教座堂), also known as the Xujiahui Cathedral (Chinese: 徐家汇主教座堂) or sometimes known as the Xujiahui Catholic Church (Chinese: 徐家汇天主教堂), is the Catholic cathedral of the Latin Church diocese of Shanghai, located in Xujiahui, Shanghai, China.
The Xuhui District is named after its namesake, the historic area of Xujiahui. Xujiahui was historically land owned by Ming dynasty bureaucrat and scientist Xu Guangqi, and later donated to the Roman Catholic Church. It and Luwan District jointly formed the core of Catholic Shanghai, centered in the former French Concession of Shanghai.
The site chosen was the village of Xujiahui (pronounced Zikawei in Shanghainese), five miles southwest of Shanghai, although the area has since been annexed into Shanghai municipality. Fr. Gotteland also made the decision to set aside space for a collection of books supporting the missionaries' study and work upon their arrival at Xujiahui.
