Charleston is more white, preppy, wealthy and refined, while Savannah is more diverse, laid back, edgy. Charleston has the more established food scene, but Savannah has come a long way in recent years. Savannah does win on nightlife, as Charleston seems relatively quiet at night. I love Savannah's tree canopy, which I think Charleston is lacking.
Advice: Please stick to Savannah, Chatham, and Bryan County. Effingham County, just outside Savannah (that's Rincon, Guyton, Springfield) is to be avoided, 100%. It really is one of the worst places on earth, and it's part of metro Savannah.

For starters, it's a much YOUNGER and more VIBRANT community than Sarasota, which of course is a major retirement city. The median age in Sarasota is 41, and 25 percent of the population is 65 or older. The media age in Savannah is 32, and only 13 percent of the population is over 65.
