87.2% (third ballot) Melvin Thomas Ott (March 2, 1909 – November 21, 1958), nicknamed " Master Melvin ", was an American professional baseball right fielder, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Giants, from 1926 through 1947. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed.
Former New York Giants star Mel Ott was hired as his replacement. Ott led the Oaks to an 80–88 record in 1951 (seventh place) and a 104–76 mark in 1952 (second place). [citation needed] Augie Galan replaced Ott as the Oaks' skipper in 1953, and the team stumbled to a 77–103 record and seventh place in the PCL.
