When you add a 3rd or 4th wheel, you are not riding a motorcycle any longer, you are riding a trike. It doesn't look, ride, behave, or handle like a 2 wheel motorcycle. It is a trike and it is going to ride like a trike. As for smoothness, when you add tires, you add more surface to touch the road so you are going to feel more surface.
Mark, I look forward to it. Dan, it's amazing what a Goldwinger will do for something they want badly enough. Kinda glad things didn't work out with the other kit now as the Voyager and the Corbin seat combined cost less than than the other kit did. We really like the outrigger style kit compared to the regular 3 wheel trike.
I bought my Voyager XII last week with a Voyager Trike Kit. It is a 2003 with 10,900 miles and is really in great condition. I have put about 100 miles on the trike and am disappointed with the ride. The ride is very rough. Is this to be expected from a Trike. Does any one else have this set up and what is your experience.
The voyager did bounce a lot more than the motortrike does. I wonder if the bouncing caused her to lose control, as you say hitting the shoulder caused the problem with the kit itself. The men in my family always said watching me ride the voyager was scary and I could never figure out why they thought that until I followed it one day and saw ...
I explained everything to the guy who answered the phone the same way I did in my OP. His response was that it was the trike kit causing the problem. His explanation was the trike wheels will tend to pull one way or the other in a small rut or bounce when going across bigger bumps and those will both cause the front end wobble.

The 1700 we had triked by Champion in 2011, wife and I always ride 2 up and have never regretted the addition of the trike kit. We DID try a bolt on trike kit from a company called Voyager, could not deal with the idea of 4 wheels, one in the middle! The Champion trike kit fits us very well, we did tour the factory since we live in California ...

Ok, installed this kit on my 1800 R. Not TOO much of a hassle, but more than expected. Have a couple of questions and don't want to wait 'til Monday if I can get input here. First, anyone who has knowledge of various preloads on the kit let me know: Suggested shock setting is 4, 80%, preload is 1/4" for 1800.
