Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. The Clemson Tigers football program is a college football team that represents Clemson University in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Tigers compete as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.
Born in Loris, South Carolina (near the Myrtle Beach area), Brooks grew up on a tobacco farm. A 1960 dairy science graduate of Clemson University, Brooks spent time in the United States Army before founding Naturally Fresh Foods, a condiment and salad dressing manufacturer in the Atlanta area, in 1967.
Clemson finished with a 17–8 record and a 9–5 record in the ACC. Randy Mahaffey was a first-team All-ACC selection who became Clemson's first professional player. The institution was founded as the Naval School on 10 October 1845 by Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft and Captain David Forman. The campus was established at Annapolis on the grounds of the former U.S. Army post Fort Severn. The school opened with 50 midshipman students and seven professors.
