This is just guessing but you probably have to pay Google a shit ton of money to use the map data commercially unless you are A) Google, where the project will be killed 6 months after release B) Capable of creating your own street view data of the entire globe. Only Microsoft has come close and did just that with Flight Sim.

But it would be enough for me, if there would be a script, which would download all photos from google maps along a router (start and destination address), automatically in single images. Then I could stitch them together to a simple video with 1-2 FPS and play it.
Try 'driving' around in Google maps using street view and you'll see why it wouldn't work - there's no depth to it since it's all static images. So it would need a vast array of 3D assets to be created at a high enough quality to not look terrible. Now tech is here. Set a route in google maps, wait some minutes while Google servers fetch the streetview images, then interpolate between them, making a video sequence, simple AI tech can make it semi 3D so you can use steering, then you ready to go and drive.
Google Maps 2D Driving Simulator. At full speed, it has the turnradious of a small town. An 60mph I think a 90deg turn would flip the car over rather then just do a big ass circle. Nope. But still think it could be tweaked a bit though :P. This car has the least responsive steering of any vehicle I have ever driven.
Definitely worth the 5$/month or 30$/year. Highly highly recommend! EDIT: I will add that at elevation ABOVE 5,000 feet bing maps looks much better than google version. However close to ground and even at 3-4000 feet google maps is 1000x more detailed and realistic.
Google Maps Basically the title. Google maps offers a lot of towns that have been modeled in 3D and it is a shame that there's no car simulation offering to drive around town, inside town, and not just drive on a flat 2D plane.
