Stardew's current release schedule where Windows, Mac, and Linux get updates first followed by the consoles would mean crossplay would be broken for a period of time. The PC/Mac version of the game could be held back until all the console version were ready to avoid that issue, but it would delay updates for anyone on those platforms.
Not everyone has the same platform and its quite annoying that you cant play with your friends if one is on a switch and the other is on a Xbox, or even pc players trying to join a PlayStation friend and so on. i know mods may get in the way, but couldn't there like be a feature implanted that...
I am wondering. Have you guys thought about making this game a cross platform? I purchased this game for my brother(on switch) and he has been asking me to play with him. I then turned around and bought it on my phone thinking that it was cross platform. To my surprise it wasn’t. We were both upset that we couldn’t play together.

Hi Stardew Valley's community! First of all, sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find any specific info on the forum and even on the rest of the internet. I own Stardew Valley on PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. I would like to use the same saved game for the three platforms.
I've recently bought this beautiful game and enjoyed it so much. I've bought it on the switch, but i have some family that don't have switches but would love to play on my farm with me. is there any update on the whole Cross Platform front for the game? I searched it up and didn't find much of a straight answer, just people speculating. thanks!
I understand that you want cross-platform play. However, sometimes there are technical limitations or platform policies that prevent some games from being available on all platforms. Continue to express your interest in cross-platform play, this can encourage developers and platforms to consider cross-platform integration in the future. _(-_-メ)
For what it's worth, prior to 1.5.5, my friend and I were able to play together via Invite Code when they have the game on Steam/PC and I have it through GoG/Mac.
Yeah, cross-platform saves are very tough to implement. I'm pretty sure that would require Stardew to start using user accounts and have server backend which simply may not be feasible with the current dev team's size.
