Chamonix has one of the highest cable cars in the world, which links the town to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842 m. [24] It is based on an older system built in 1920, rebuilt in the first half of the 1950s over five summer seasons, [ 25 ] fully modernized in 1979, and upgraded again in 2008.
The Aiguille du Midi Cable Car in Chamonix attracts 500,000 people each year and gives views over much of the massif, and up towards Mont Blanc itself. Argentière is the starting point for the Téléphérique du Lognan cable car up to Les Grands Montets (3,295 m, 10,810 ft), a skiing area famous for its steep and demanding slopes, both on-piste as well as off-piste.
