Christa Deguchi (出口 クリスタ Deguchi Christa, born 29 October 1995) is a Japanese-born Canadian judoka. [2] She is the reigning Olympic champion in the women's 57 kg event, after winning gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Judo is a Japanese martial art and combat sport founded by Jigoro Kano (1860 – 1938) in 1882. It was introduced to Canada by Japanese migrants in the early twentieth century, first in British Columbia and then in the Prairies, Ontario, and Quebec as Japanese Canadians who had been expelled from the Pacific coast during the Second World War resettled in other provinces.

Jessica Klimkait (born 31 December 1996) is a Canadian Judoka who competes in the women's 57 kg category. [1] In 2021 she became Canada's second judo world champion, defeating Momo Tamaoki of Japan in the women's lightweight (57 kg) final at the championships in Budapest, Hungary; the win also qualified her for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Judo Canada, formerly known as The Canadian Kodokan Black Belt Association, is the non-profit national governing body of the Japanese martial art and combat sport Judo in Canada, and a federation of Judo associations in each of the ten provinces and three territories.
Originally representing Japan, in 2018 she switched to represent Canada. She is the younger sister of Christa Deguchi, also a judoka. [3] She won the silver medal in Judo at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's 52 kg. [3] [4] She qualified to represent Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics. [5]
