Higbee cut on male thread. A Higbee cut is a specific cut added to a screw thread to produce a blunt start, instead of the sharp end of the unmodified screw thread. It is named for its inventor Clinton Higbee. The presence of a Higbee cut on both male and female threads eliminates the chance of cross threading.
It can be used to control a sprinkler system, hydrant or other device, or may be used as a divisional valve. Post indicator valves are also used for process and domestic water systems, and when this occurs on the same property, they are distinguished by color: red for fire; blue, green or yellow for process water. Higbee may refer to: Higbee, Missouri, a city in Randolph County, Missouri, in the United States; Higbee's, a former Cleveland, Ohio, department store; USS Higbee (DD-806), a United States Navy destroyer in commission from 1945 to 1979; Higbee cut, a specific cut added to a screw thread to produce a blunt start
A rule of thumb is that the undercut should be at least 1.5 threads long and the diameter should be at least 0.015 in (0.38 mm) smaller than the minor diameter of the thread. [1] Strictly speaking the relief simply needs to be equal or slightly smaller than the minor diameter of the thread.
An interrupted screw or interrupted thread is a mechanical device typically used in the breech of artillery guns. It is believed to have been invented in 1845. [1] The system has also been used to close other devices, including the joint between helmet (bonnet) and breastplate (corselet) of standard diving suit helmets, and the locks of diving ...
At set pressure the valve snaps to full lift. This can be quite violent on large pipes with significant pressure. The pressure has to drop below the set pressure in order for the piston to reseat (see blowdown in relief valve article). Modulating The pilot is designed to open gradually, so that less of the system fluid is lost during each ...
The stress relief treatment resulted in 47% growth of the original, large peak, while it shifted to the left 28-RPM (less than 0.75%). Figure 5: Vibratory Stress Relief was performed on this mild steel weldment weighing almost 12 tons. Overall size was 17' × 15' × 2' (≈ 5.2 × 5.6 × 0.6 meters).
Top and Front view of a milled undercut slot. In milling the spindle is where a cutting tool is mounted. In some situations material must be cut from a direction where the feature can not be seen from the perspective of the spindle and requires special tooling to reach behind the visible material.
