The big-budget romantic Punjabi film by director Padam Prakash Maheshwary, Satluj De Kande, was released in 1964. This film starred Balraj Sahni, Nishi, Wasti, and Mirza Musharraf, with music by Hansraj Behl. This was the only Punjabi film starring Balraj Sahni. It was a major hit and earned a National Film Award.
K.D. Mehra made the first Punjabi "talkie" film, Sheela, also known as Pind Di Kurhi, in 1935. [1] Young Noor Jehan was introduced as an actress and singer in this film.
