The Severn Valley Railway was built between 1858 and 1862, and linked Hartlebury, near Droitwich Spa, with Shrewsbury, a distance of 40 miles (64 km).Important stations on the line were Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley, and Arley within Worcestershire; and Highley, Hampton Loade, Bridgnorth, Coalport, Ironbridge and Broseley, Buildwas, Cressage, and Berrington in Shropshire.
It was withdrawn in 1965 and came to the Dart Valley Railway for preservation. From 1967 it spent time on the Severn Valley Railway and West Somerset Railway before returning to Buckfastleigh in 1998. 7812 Erlestoke Manor is a preserved GWR 7800 Class steam locomotive, operated by the Great Western Railway and later British Railways. Owned by the Erlestoke Manor Fund, as at December 2022 it was in operational condition on the Severn Valley Railway.
