As Belfairs High School, the school was inspected by Ofsted in 2010 and judged Good. [2] Following conversion to an academy, the school was inspected in 2013 and judged Good. [ 3 ] A short inspection took place in 2016, and found that the school continued to be good.

The Academies are situated across two sites: the Lower Academy (for 11 to 14-year-olds) and the Upper Academy (for 14 to 19-year-olds). There is a Sixth Form on the Upper Academy site. The Academies opened in 2009, under the sponsorship of The Stanton Lane Educational Trust. Both Academies are housed in modern buildings. [1]

The new sixth form opened in February 1970. By 1971, there were 1800 at the school. There were too many children at the school in the early 1970s. [8] In 1975 an arsonist set fire to the gym, needing 18 firemen. [9] In June 1975, the headteacher was awarded the CBE in the 1975 Birthday Honours. Two squash courts opened in April 1976. [10] [11]
In February 2019 the school was declared by Ofsted to be inadequate on all fronts, with reports of discrimination, failure to tackle bullying, failure to safeguard pupils, and an apparent "overgenerous view of the school’s effectiveness".
