The base 3000GT and SL model and the Dodge Stealth ES and R/T model came equipped with a 3.0-liter DOHC V6 engine producing 222 hp (166 kW). The VR-4 (Viscous Realtime 4WD) and R/T Turbo came equipped with a twin turbocharged 3.0-liter DOHC V6 engine producing 300 hp (224 kW) at 5,500 rpm.
R/T is the performance marker used on Dodge/Chrysler automobiles since the 1960s (similar to Chevrolet's Super Sport; or SS). R/T stands for Road/Track. [ 1 ] R/T models usually come with R/T badging and a combination of upgraded suspension, tires, brakes, and often more powerful engines.
The DOHC 24-valve was used in the Mitsubishi Debonair, 3000GT, and Dodge Stealth producing 222 hp (166 kW; 225 PS) and 205 lb⋅ft (278 N⋅m) of torque with a 10.0:1 compression ratio in naturally aspirated form, and as much as 320 hp (239 kW; 324 PS) and 315 lb⋅ft (427 N⋅m) of torque in turbocharged form. The 3.5 L engine was expanded to 4.0 L; 241.2 cu in (3,952 cc) for the 2007 Dodge Nitro and Chrysler Pacifica. Like its family members, this is a SOHC engine and was built in Trenton, Michigan . DaimlerChrysler reportedly spent $155 million to expand the Trenton plant to manufacture this engine.

The engine was especially suited for transverse applications in Chrysler's minivans, but was also used in a longitudinal front-wheel-drive setup on 1993-1997 LH platform cars. It was last used in 2010 for Chrysler minivans before the introduction of the new 3.6 L Pentastar engine for the 2011 model year.
