SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden was first announced back in November 21, 2018 at the Gundam 40th Anniversary live press conference. [3] Created as a reboot of the BB Senshi Sangokuden franchise (a spinoff of the Musha Gundam series and part of the SD Gundam franchise), the series only shares its namesake from its other franchise as it was an entirely different series altogether.

Mobile Suit SD Gundam was released as a series of shorts accompanying feature films by Sunrise, or in OVA form. Eventually a feature film and a TV series were also made. SD Sengokuden Musha Shichinin Shuu Hen (SD戦国伝 武者七人衆編, lit. SD Warring States Legend: Group of the Seven Warriors Chapter) is the first work in the long-running Musha Gundam series. SD Sengokuden was the main title at first but became a subtitle by the time SD Sengokuden Tenka Touitsu Hen was released. It ran from 1988 to 1990.
