Ixtapa (Spanish pronunciation:, Nahuatl pronunciation ⓘ) is a resort city in Mexico, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta in the state of Guerrero. It is located 5 km (3 mi) northwest of the municipal seat, Zihuatanejo , and 245 km (150 mi) northwest of Acapulco .
Isla Ixtapa (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈislajɣsˈtapa]) is a small island near Zihuatanejo in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Three main beaches on Isla Ixtapa are- Playa Varadero, Playa Cuachalalate, and Playa Coral.
In the 1970s, the area changed radically when the federal government decided to develop the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa area into a tourist attraction. This caused the population to increase dramatically, especially in the 1980s and today the main economic base is tourism. [3] Tourism in Zihuatanejo was negatively impacted by some events in the 2000s.
Zihuatanejo de Azueta is a municipality in the Mexican state of Guerrero. It includes the major resort communities of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa in addition to numerous other towns. In 2010 it had a population of 118,211 inhabitants. It has an area of 1468 km² (567 sq mi). [2] Its municipal seat is the city of Zihuatanejo.
The major tourism center for the area (not counting Acapulco) is the twin developed attractions of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. [4] In recent years, Troncones has been growing and has become better known. Since the mid 20th century, Acapulco and later Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, have been traditional beaches for vacationers from Mexico.

Troncones is a relatively undeveloped, uncrowded beach village located about 20 miles (32 km) north west of Zihuatanejo on the coast of the state of Guerrero. [2] It is located in the municipality of La Unión de Isidoro Montes de Oca and has a population of about 593 people (2005 census). [3]
