Due to the desire of Dr. Guram Tavartkiladze, [2] the Georgian government, general public, and foreign governments of western countries (primarily Germany and the United States) to establish a business school in Georgia, Tbilisi State Institute of Economic Relations was founded on March 19, 1992 according to the decree of the Ministry of Education of Georgia.

Georgian Technical University was founded in 1922 as a polytechnic faculty of the Tbilisi State University. The first lecture was read by Georgian mathematician Professor Andrea Razmadze. Transformed in 1928 into an independent "Georgian Politechnical Institute" it achieved University status by 1990.
The University of Georgia was founded in 2004 under the name of "Georgian University of Social Sciences". The University Founders were doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Giuli Alasania, and doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Manana Sanadze. From 2005 to 2007, the university developed and grew significantly.
