Although not strictly a part of classic torque converter design, many automotive converters include a lock-up clutch to improve cruising power transmission efficiency and reduce heat. The application of the clutch locks the turbine to the impeller, causing all power transmission to be mechanical, thus eliminating losses associated with fluid drive.
This can become quite violent. Reasons for this part's failure: Piston stuck, or seals or springs damaged or missing. Correction for this problem: Check these parts for damage. Replace as required (located inside the transaxle, recommended that a transmission shop do the repair, but a full rebuild of the transaxle is NOT required).
The first automatic transmission to use a torque converter (instead of a fluid coupling) was the Buick Dynaflow, which was introduced for the 1948 model year. In normal driving, the Dynaflow used only the top gear, relying on the torque multiplication of the torque convertor at lower speeds.
A transmission (also called a gearbox) is a mechanical device which uses a gear set—two or more gears working together—to change the speed, direction of rotation, or torque multiplication/reduction in a machine. [1] [2] Transmissions can have a single fixed-gear ratio, multiple distinct gear ratios, or continuously variable ratios. Variable ...
Mayo Clinic's humanities program was founded on the belief that the arts and healing are linked. [98] Over the decades, Mayo Clinic has established an extensive art collection, including these works on display across all campuses: Endangered Species by Andy Warhol; John D'Aire by Auguste Rodin; Fish by Alexander Calder; Man and Freedom by Ivan ...

This sudden rise in body temperature affects an estimated 35 to 50 percent of perimenopausal women, according to Harvard Health. Again, the severity will differ from woman to woman—some may feel ...
A direct-shift gearbox (DSG, German: Direktschaltgetriebe [1]) [2] [3] is an electronically controlled, dual-clutch, [2] multiple-shaft, automatic gearbox, in either a transaxle or traditional transmission layout (depending on engine/drive configuration), with automated clutch operation, and with fully-automatic [2] or semi-manual gear selection.
