The Japan Rail Pass (ジャパンレールパス, japan rēru pasu), also called the JR Pass, is a rail pass sold by the Japan Railways Group exclusively for overseas visitors. It is valid for travel on all major forms of transportation provided by the JR Group in Japan , with a few exceptions.
This category contains articles on various rail passes, which are offered to travelers to freely ride on trains within a relatively short period of time for the purpose of tourism. Seasons / period tickets offered for day to day commutation (e.g. travel to work and schools) are excluded.
The exceptions to this are small lines isolated from the main North American rail network used in resource industries such as mining or forestry, some of which are narrow gauge, and the streetcar and heavy-rail subway lines of the Toronto Transit Commission which use a broad gauge of 4 ft 10 + 7 ⁄ 8 in (1,495 mm).

Cobourg station is served by most trains on Via Rail's Toronto-Ottawa and Toronto-Montreal routes, though a small number of express trains pass through the station without stopping. As of October 2023 the station is served by 6 to 7 trains per day toward Ottawa, and 3 to 4 trains per day toward Montreal and 8 trains per day toward Toronto. [2]
