Riverhead Raceway is a 0.250 mi (0.402 km) oval race track with a Figure 8 course, [2] located in Riverhead, New York. [1] It is the only auto racing venue on Long Island since Westhampton Raceway closed down in 2003. [3]
The inaugural season saw 90 days of racing activity between the two tracks. In 1999, ISC partnered with the founders of the facility when it purchased 930 acres (380 ha) of land adjacent to the facility to build Chicagoland Speedway. [2] The quarter-mile, $20 million drag strip features a four-story, 38-suite complex.
It opened on March 27, 1999, under the official name Irwindale Speedway. Toyota purchased the naming rights to the facility in 2008, and from that time until 2011 it was also known as the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. [1] The speedway featured banked, paved 1 ⁄ 2 - and 1 ⁄ 3-mile oval tracks and a 1 ⁄ 8-mile drag strip.
