Canisius University / k ə ˈ n iː ʃ ə s / is a private Jesuit university in Buffalo, New York. It was founded in 1870 by Jesuits from Germany and is named after St. Peter Canisius . Canisius offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and minors, and around 34 master's and certificate programs.

The Golden Griffins will represent Canisius College, play their home games at the LECOM Harborcenter and be coached by Trevor Large in his 8th season.
Canisius originally competed as a football independent, before competing for years as a member of the Western New York Little Three Conference with local Catholic rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure. The team moved to Division III in the 1970s, before joining the I-AA 's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1993 .

Canisius has qualified for the NCAA Division I softball tournament a MAAC record 12 times, doing so each year from 1994 to 1997, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, each year from 2007 to 2009, and most recently in 2022.
