Midtown Madness (also known as Midtown Madness: Chicago Edition) is a 1999 racing game developed by Angel Studios and published by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows. The demo version was released in April 1999. Two sequels followed, with Midtown Madness 2 released in September 2000 and Midtown Madness 3 released in June 2003 for the Xbox.
Also Midtown Madness 2 was the first title to use the AGE (Angel Game Engine) game engine, unlike the ARTS (Angel Real Time Simulation) game engine used by its prequel, Midtown Madness, and which was also used in the Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. and Slugfest games developed by Angel Studios.
The online play was compared to competitor games of its time. GameSpot ' s Jeff Gerstmann called it "more accessible than its nearest competition, Midnight Club II." [26] The game was a competitor on the PlayStation 2, and developed by Rockstar San Diego, who had developed the previous two Midtown Madness games as Angel Studios. [26]
