The Bay Parkway station (formerly known as 22nd Avenue station) is a local station on the BMT Sea Beach Line of the New York City Subway, located in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn at the intersection of Bay Parkway and West Seventh Street. It is served by the N train at all times. During rush hours, several W trains also serve this station
Bay Parkway opened on July 29, 1916, as part of an extension of the BMT West End Line from 18th Avenue to 25th Avenue.The line was originally a surface excursion railway to Coney Island, called the Brooklyn, Bath and Coney Island Railroad, which was established in 1862, but did not reach Coney Island until 1864. Bay Parkway was known as 22nd Avenue until the 1930s, when the name was changed to facilitate large-scale apartment-type residential development.Its renaming as a parkway was first proposed in the state legislature in 1892, along with Bay Ridge Parkway, and Fort Hamilton Parkway, placing the road under the jurisdiction of the Brooklyn Parks Department. The B6 began as the Bay Parkway bus, initiated by Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit, or the BMT, on August 24, 1931. [ citation needed ] In 1968, service on Cozine Avenue was supplemented by the new B84 bus (different from the current B84), [ 4 ] which was later merged into the B6.
The B6 runs northbound from 26th Avenue to Bay Parkway in Bensonhurst, but is out of service from 25th Avenue to Bay 37th Street, changing its direction to Canarsie or East New York. The B8 serves the corridor north of 18th Avenue. The B82 serves the corridor south of Bay Parkway, with all Select Bus Service short-turning at Bay 37th Street.
The 20th Avenue station is a local station on the BMT Sea Beach Line of the New York City Subway, located on 20th Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets in the Mapleton [4] neighborhood of Brooklyn.
At 2.3 miles (3.7 km), there is an intersection with Kings Highway, which ends soon afterwards at Bay Parkway. Stillwell Avenue also comes to an end at Bay Parkway, 2.4 miles (3.9 km) from its start. The road virtually continues as Bay Ridge Parkway, a street that was formerly part of Route 439. [1]
