Bishop Shanahan High School is a coeducational Catholic secondary school of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The school is named after Right Rev. John W. Shanahan , the third bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg , and is the only archdiocesan secondary school in Chester County .
The splitting of Downingtown into two high schools and the opening of a new, larger Bishop Shanahan High School, which now was much larger than the rural schools that still dominated the Southern Chester County League, allowed the Ches-Mont to grow to six schools in 2003.
Hoey attended Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. As a senior, he set the U.S. high school national record in the indoor 800 meters, with a time of 1:47.67. [2] He competed at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, running 1:48.07 in the semifinals of the 800 meters. [3]

The "Catholic Girls High School" was founded in 1912. Mary McMichan, one of the school's founders, requested in her last will that the school be renamed in honor of her brother. The school became "John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School" after her death. Both schools are still in existence.
