Nancy Botwin is a single mother who lives in Agrestic—a fictional suburb of Los Angeles—with her two children, 15-year-old Silas and 10-year-old Shane, when the series begins. The Botwin family must deal with the death of Judah in season one, and Shane brings up the issue several times later during the series. Nancy's second husband dies at the end of season two. The season begins with the fallout of the botched drug deal.
