Quinnipiac Law was originally founded as the University of Bridgeport School of Law in the 1980s, and seceded from the University of Bridgeport in 1992. [3] It is the newest law school in Connecticut , having received full accreditation from the American Bar Association (ABA) in 1992.
The university's official student newspaper is The Quinnipiac Chronicle. [11] In 2007 and 2008, Quinnipiac briefly drew national attention over the university's control over the Chronicle and other aspects of students' speech after the then-editor of the Chronicle openly criticized a university policy that forbade the newspaper from publishing news online before it was published in print.
In 2013, she was appointed professor of history and Irish studies at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. She serves as director of the Ireland's Great Hunger Institute at the university. Her charter includes developing an undergraduate Irish studies program at Quinnipiac. [7]

The law school faculty and students voted to merge with Quinnipiac University and the name was officially changed to the Quinnipiac University School of Law. [ 13 ] Once PWPA-appointed trustees constituted a majority on the board of trustees, the trustees retained the president at the time, Edwin G. Eigel Jr. (1932–2008).
