As an aftermath of World War II and the subsequent baby boom, Carlsbad's population skyrocketed and there became a sudden need for more schools. In 1955, voters in Oceanside and Carlsbad voted and approved a $1.26 million construction bond that funded the building of Carlsbad's first public high school. Carlsbad High School first opened in 1957.
