The Canon VT is a rangefinder camera released by Canon in 1956. Until then, Canon had a history of making slightly modified Leica copies. The release of the VT showed for the first time that Canon could be a leader in 35mm rangefinder design. Canon kept the Leica screw mount on the VT, and little else.
In 1956, Canon departed from the Leica II Style and developed a more contemporary look, along with a Contax style self-timer level to the left of the lens mount. Even larger CCD sensors were only included in interchangeable-lens cameras, such as the Canon 1D, Nikon D60, and Leica M9. Nearly all such models were more expensive and less beginner-friendly than the point-and-shoot cameras listed here.

The Canon XL-2, released in 2004, is Canon's prosumer 3CCD standard-definition camcorder. The XL-2 is the big brother to the GL family and the successor of the similar looking Canon XL-1s. It is succeeded by the Canon XL-H1 with a similar 20x lens and similar design, but in black.

The Zorki 4's production run outlasted all of them. When it morphed into the Zorki 4K by 1973, its contemporaries included the FED 4b, Leica M4 and M5, Nikon F2, and Canon F-1 and Canon Canonet QL 17 GIII. The Zorki 4 is essentially a Zorki 3S with a self timer. It retained all of the features and strong points of the 3S.
