Jumbo frames have payloads greater than 1500 bytes. In computer networking, jumbo frames are Ethernet frames with more than 1500 bytes of payload, the limit set by the IEEE 802.3 standard. [1] The payload limit for jumbo frames is variable: while 9000 bytes is the most commonly used limit, smaller and larger limits exist.
The IP MTU and Ethernet maximum frame size are configured separately. In Ethernet switch configuration, MTU may refer to Ethernet maximum frame size. In Ethernet-based routers, MTU normally refers to the IP MTU. If jumbo frames are allowed in a network, the IP MTU should also be adjusted upwards to take advantage of this.
There are several types of Ethernet frames: Ethernet II frame, or Ethernet Version 2, [g] or DIX frame is the most common type in use today, as it is often used directly by the Internet Protocol. Novell raw IEEE 802.3 non-standard variation frame; IEEE 802.2 Logical Link Control (LLC) frame; IEEE 802.2 Subnetwork Access Protocol (SNAP) frame
The size of the payload of non-standard jumbo frames, typically ~9000 Bytes long, collides with the range used by EtherType, and cannot be used for indicating the length of such a frame. The proposition to resolve this conflict was to substitute the special EtherType value 0x8870 when a length would otherwise be used. [ 2 ]

A frame is a series of bits generally composed of frame synchronization bits, the packet payload, and a frame check sequence. Examples are Ethernet frames, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) frames, Fibre Channel frames, and V.42 modem frames. Often, frames of several different sizes are nested inside each other.
