John W. Boyer (born October 17, 1946, in Chicago) is an American historian and academic administrator. He is Senior Advisor to the President and the Martin A. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. [1] He served as Dean of the College from 1992 until 2023, making him the longest-tenured dean in the College's history.
After graduation, Jensen started as assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis in 1966. In 1970 he moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he became associate professor of history and was professor of history from 1973 to 1996. [4] [5] In 2008 he became a research professor at Montana State University Billings. [6]
Chicago is home to 70% of the district's residents (down from 90% in the 1990s), [11] although roughly 60% of the district's area is outside the city border.
