I'm in the market for a Ruger M77 in .357Mag. Can anybody recommend a good low power (1-4 or 2-5 or so) scope? The rifle comes with 1 inch scope rings and my scope budget tops out at about a buck and a half. This will be mostly a fun gun not used for hunting or defense and will mostly fire .38...
The Ruger design was also adapted to the .454 and .480 cartridges with SIX SHOT cylinders, with a simple change of the alloy used. The Ruger has been converted to cartridges like the .454Casull, .475Linebaugh, .500Linebaugh and .500JRH. Not possible in the S&W. The Ruger's bolt notches are between the chambers, where S&W's are directly over them.
I like .25 bores. I am a huge fan of the .25-06. The recoil is minimum for a hi-powered rifle, and the down range effects on game is amazing. As well is its accuracy. I like the 115 grain Combined Technology bullets and the 100 grain Ballistic Tips over IMR 4895 or RL-19. It is lighting bolt effective.
Just checked my email, and got the notice from Ruger. I'm very excited to see that the American is now available in .223. I think the night lightweight rifle and that round are a really nice pairing, and one that I have been waiting for. I'm pretty psyched.
Tactical Solutions also makes conversion units that will give you a threaded barrel. Keep in mind that the 'barrel' on a Ruger is also the receiver and the serialized part. I have an older Ruger Standard (the first run of the MK types) with a tapered barrel that was threaded for a can with the sight set back. So it can be done.
This is my AK74....which melted after a 500 round range session. On the table is my "other piston gun"....a SIG516, Gen 1. It is just as sassy as Lucretia and the Ruger. It eats everything you stick in it. Finally...my POF entry gun, SBR/CAN/NFA Happy Switch...it will eat steel ammo as long as the can is NOT in use.
Plinking, precision shooting, self-defense, putting food on the table: rifles fill every niche. Moderated by: Robert, taliv
well Redhawks have been around forever, the others I personally consider a little gimicky. they are however quite fun to play with(i have something similar I shoot clays with, a bfr in 45/410) so if any were to be discontinued my money would be on the Raging Judge going first. they dropped their 500 mag Raging Bull among others, it seems like the less common calibers in the line of "Raging ...
I have a "last-ditch" (for use within 3 yards) .22 short Beretta Minx with CCI short hollow points, which I think is much more effective than a .25 acp. It really spits 'em out and tears 'em up. Use LR solids in winter for heavy clothing penetration and CCI Stingers when clothing penetration is not a consideration.
As an update/range report 1.075 COL and 4.8 grains of Unique worked out really well and was super accurate. I do not have access to a chrono currently so am not sure if it will reliably expand at that rate, but wow. Very impressed with the accuracy in my glock 19 that is for sure!
