    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/expanding-foam-cold-temperatures.472807

Does anybody know of an expanding foam insulation that will cure at -20? Tried Great Stuff and a couple of other brands, they just stay liquid and flow down. The internet - fueling paranoia and misinformation since 1873.

  3. Wheelbarrow tire- filling with foam | Homesteading Forum

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/wheelbarrow-tire-filling-with-foam.535189

All the expanding foam products meant for insulation wont hold up to this kind of use. And if you found a shop to fill it, still probably cost just as much as buying a replacement no-flat tire-wheel. Honest most wheelbarrel tires are paper thin.

  4. Spray foam that hardens - Homesteading Forum

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/spray-foam-that-hardens.528640

The best expanding foam on the market is Great Stuff Pro. It will expand to fill cracks up to 2 inches wide, but getting it to setup and stick in a 2 inch gap takes a LOT of practice. Each can of foam runs about $20.

By expanding to fill gaps and cracks, our foam filler helps direct the flow of water in waterfall, pond and streambed construction to the exterior of the water feature, instead of between or behind rocks. The foam’s black color means it’s easily hidden among the stones and shadows.

Yes if you put 2 layers of foam board it will double the rating to R20. Foam board might be better than fiberglass in this case as it should be water proof just incase you get a leak. You will also want a few cans of expanding foam to fill any gaps or seams. You also need to make sure whatever you use is also rodent proof. Spray foam is an option.

Drill a small hole just big enough for a spray foam straw in the corner of the bottom and another in the corner of the top diagonally opposite. Do those on the inside. Use the NON-expanding foam to fill the interior cavity. You need more than one can. Fill from the bottom hole.

  8. Best way to insulate our cabin - Homesteading Forum

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/best-way-to-insulate-our-cabin.101119

My plan is to place form board,(1-1/2), then1"x1"srtips along the sides to hold it up, leaving a 1" air gap between the roof boards and the top of the foam. then covering the foam w/carsiding nailed to the strips. This should give me about 3" of open rafters exposed. Will need to cut in roof vents at the peak and eve vents.

  9. Question re: shower stall installation/mobile home

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/question-re-shower-stall-installation-mobile...

The foam has a very high compression strength. That is what it is best for. You would need the two part, polyurethane foam and not the cheap stuff in a spray can. The stuff already mentioned for under slab insulation would do nicely as well. You can get the two part polyurethane at a marine supplier like West Marine.

  10. Chinking question for log cabin - Homesteading Forum

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/chinking-question-for-log-cabin.294435

It involves galvanized nails and expanding foam. The nails are there to keep the chinking in place. I suspect your wire mesh serves the same purpose. Put expanding foam behind the nails to fill gap between logs but be careful not to use so much that it expands outside the nails (or wire mesh in your case).

  11. Making "replacement windows" into "new construction" windows?

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/making-replacement-windows-into-new...

I used a couple of these once in my house. I built the rough opening so there was about 1/16" in gap around the window, then filled it with expanding foam sealer. I put aluminum flashing uround the exterior of the wiondow, and caulked the flashing to the window to seal water out, then sided over the flashing
