Luke 24 is the twenty-fourth and final chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The book containing this chapter is anonymous , but early Christian tradition uniformly affirmed that Luke the Evangelist composed this Gospel as well as the Acts of the Apostles . [ 1 ]
Reason: It is possible that this verse is a repetition of Matthew 24:40. Even the King James Version had doubts about this verse, as it provided (in the original 1611 edition and still in many high-quality editions) a sidenote that said, "This 36th verse is wanting in most of the Greek copies."
After the resurrection, Jesus is portrayed as calling the apostles to the Great Commission, as described in Matthew 28:16–20, [45] Mark 16:14–18, [46] Luke 24:44–49, [47] Acts 1:4–8, [48] and John 20:19–23, [49] in which the disciples receive the call "to let the world know the good news of a victorious Saviour and the very presence ...
"The women" that followed Jesus from Galilee (also in Luke 23:55) were "Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them" according to Luke 24:10. Mark and Q account for about 64% of Luke; the remaining material, known as the L source, is of unknown origin and date. [29] Most Q and L-source material is grouped in two clusters, Luke 6:17–8:3 and 9:51–18:14, and L-source material forms the first two sections of the gospel (the preface and infancy and childhood narratives). The King James Version's wording is "ungrammatical, a strange expression". [19] Many translations insert reference to his "work" [ 28 ] or his "ministry". [ 29 ] Luke does not state how many years John baptised for, but this is when most date the start of Jesus's ministry, 29 or 30.
The Hebrew scriptures were an important source for the New Testament authors. [13] There are 27 direct quotations in the Gospel of Mark, 54 in Matthew, 24 in Luke, and 14 in John, and the influence of the scriptures is vastly increased when allusions and echoes are included, [14] with half of Mark's gospel being made up of allusions to and citations of the scriptures. Paul also speaks ill of wealth in 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV), "for the love of money is the root of all evil". In terms of being full, St. Basil writes, "to live for pleasure alone is to make a god of one’s stomach" (Phil. 3:19). [4] St. Gregory writes that from the single vice of gluttony come innumerable others which fight against the soul.
