DWG (from drawing) is a proprietary [3] binary file format used for storing two- and three- dimensional design data and metadata.It is the native format for several CAD packages including DraftSight, AutoCAD, ZWCAD, IntelliCAD (and its variants), Caddie and Open Design Alliance compliant applications.

AutoSketch is a 2D vector drawing program by Autodesk. It is less powerful than Autodesk's AutoCAD and does not support 3D models. AutoSketch uses SKD and SKF, in later versions, as its native format, [citation needed] but can support DWG and DXF. Version 2.1 for Windows supported macros which has been removed in later versions.
The format was originally referred to as the Drawing Web Format, since DWF files were generated by the Autodesk Internet Publishing Kit. As the format grew in use beyond just AutoCAD, it was renamed to Design Web Format. Although originally a 2D-only format, DWF has evolved to include 3D. Today DWF files are generated by all Autodesk products.
