In 1918 a group of local farmers and businessmen held their first auction at the Jacob Moser barn located on the square in Kidron. These monthly sales were not as successful as had been hoped, so in late 1923 they offered to sell the “Company” to a young local auctioneer named S.C. “Cy” Sprunger.

A century ago, Cy Sprunger bought the Kidron Auction for $5 and worked hard to build it up, advertise the process and help others start up other auctions. Quite possibly the oldest in the state, the auction continues to meet a need 100 years later under the ownership of John and Janet Sprunger.

In 1948, the Kidron Auction celebrated 25-years under the management of Cy with a large two-day gala affair. And, in a tradition that continues today, machinery sales were started in 1947 to help raise funds to build a much-needed local fire department.
