The Allied Paper Corporation was created in 1921 by a merger of three paper mills in Kalamazoo and Otsego, both in South-West Michigan, USA. The company grew steadily over the next 40 years but when local forests had been logged off and when profits could no longer support further investments and updates it became uncompetitive.
The company continued to thrive, and in 1910 expanded again, constructing a new office building and another set of buildings which mirrored the 1906 expansion, giving the company two separate production lines. [2] In 1927, Michigan Paper purchased a paper coating company in Kalamazoo, and in 1940 moved the coating machinery to the Plainwell plant.

The Illinois Envelope Co. Building is a former industrial structure located at 400 Bryant Street (alternatively, 311 East Alcott Street) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1] In 2018, the building became the home of the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department. [2]
