4th Generation Tablo TV -> Apple Iphone and the streaming is fantastic quality. I am hoping they improve their applications, especially on the Roku and consider supporting PC/Xbox in the future. Lots of promise but been difficult so far. The interface on the Tablo TV and live channel guide is pretty good.
This struck me as unusual, because Tablo's own promotional video shows people using an Apple TV with their 4th-gen Tablo (although it's possible Tablo/Nuvyyo used old stock footage of people streaming content, and overlooked the fact that they were using the older-style Apple TV remote in the video). Tablo says support for Apple TV is coming ...
When initially announced, the Tablo was already compatible with browsers, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, etc etc etc. I bought a life time subscription, which at the time was the equivalent of 3 years worth of subscriptions, knowing the device would last at least that long.
Now for Tablo: DVR works fine, short cable run from the antenna. Tablo is in the attic and is only about 20 feet from my Wi-Fi router. It has a good, strong signal throughout the house because of the router. HOWEVER, NO APPLE TV, NO MAC APP! WTF! HOW A COMPANY CAN BRING A PRODUCT TO MARKET WITHOUT UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY IS BEYOND ME. SMALL TIME.
5. Once you have Fire TV working on your laptop PC, within Fire TV download the Tablo app. Make sure you have the right app: the icon should be black with the word Tablo in white and the word TV in white on a turquoise background. If you have already installed the physical Tablo device, your app will connect with it when you open it.
I'm new to Tablo. I moved, got rid of a ~$265 monthly Uverse bill in favor of internet only, Roku Soundbar, and 4th Gen Tablo. Had a helluva time setting up the Tablo but finally got there. Now I'm semi-happy with Tablo. Pic quality is generally good, but my test recordings of various movies and shows are failing about 1/3 of the time.
"Connecting to Tablo" seems to be a *frequent* 4th Gen issue and will come up in the middle of video playback. If you thought it might be a network issue then previous Tablo TV devices allows in the settings to transcode at a lower bitrate. The option to transcode is completely removed for this device. Tablo TV "support" is poor.
With a little hackery using Tailscale and a couple of raspberry Pi’s, I can use the Tablo app at home. Our RV is stored in a storage lot but we have it outfitted with a full solar/lithium battery setup so it can stay on permanently. And we actually can watch live TV at home streamed from our RV (which has a TV antenna, we don’t have one at ...
Lifetime subscription was definitely worth it, but the first 2 years we used it without it. Network model is definitely the way to go, allows us to watch local channels on any TV (via Roku) with a single antenna. Mostly use it for background TV noise and to watch some holiday shows and parades. All around, fantastic product.
I try a 3rd drive that I had used in my simple.tv and that also fails. All these drives are in great shape and check out fine in windows with no issues. I'm pretty sure I got a broken unit. and of course tablo tv says no returns on their refurb units, I should've smelled scam a mile away on that. Jeez, so stupid for falling for this.
