The Green Bay Harbor Entrance Light is an offshore lighthouse near Green Bay, Wisconsin. Located 10 miles (16 km) from the mouth of the Fox River, it was erected to signal the entrance to Green Bay. The shipping channel approaching the Fox River in Green Bay was changed a number of times in order to accommodate vessels of increasing draft.
The lighthouse was renovated in 1989 and reactivated in 1999. In 2001 a task force was formed by the county to oversee the preservation of the lighthouse. In 2012, a grant funded the construction of an enlarged rock barrier to protect the structure, and in 2016, another grant was used to replace the storm-damaged access pier. [ 4 ]
The Coast Guard decommissioned the lighthouse in 1994. In 2003 Milwaukee County leased the lighthouse and keepers quarters to the North Point Lighthouse Friends and they began restoration of the tower and keepers quarters. A $984,000 grant was used to restore the light station and it re-opened to the public as a maritime museum in 2007. [5]
