Central Arizona College was founded in 1969. With five campuses and three centers located throughout the county, campuses include: Signal Peak, located in Coolidge, Arizona, Aravaipa, located in Winkelman, Arizona, Superstition Mountain, located in Apache Junction, Arizona, Maricopa, located in Maricopa, Arizona, and San Tan, located in San Tan Valley, Arizona.
Urquidez attended Central Arizona College and pitched for the team for two years, leading them to the NJCAA National Championship during his freshman year in 2002. Following his time at junior college, Urquidez was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 48th round of the 2002 MLB draft, but opted to continue his collegiate career.
