Thetford is a town in Orange County, Vermont, United States in the Connecticut River Valley. The population was 2,775 at the 2020 census. [3] Villages within the town include East Thetford, North Thetford, Thetford Hill, Thetford Center, Rices Mills, Union Village, and Post Mills. The town office is in Thetford Center.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 74.2 square miles (192.2 km 2), of which 73.0 square miles (189.1 km 2) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km 2 or 1.62%) is water. It is the largest town by area in Vermont, slightly larger than Stowe in Lamoille County.
Vermont's bear hunting season is starting on Sept. 1 and will continue through Nov. 24 with early and late seasons. Hunters are restricted to one bear.
