Leighton Vander Esch (born February 8, 1996) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Boise State Broncos , and was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft .
Vander Esch joined Boise State’s program in 2014 from Riggins as a walk-on and redshirted his freshman season before making 12 appearances as a redshirt freshman in 2015.
Vander Esch played 10 games in 2020 and 17 in 2021. In 2022, he missed the final four regular-season games with a stinger but returned for the two playoff games.
