The Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) is a centralized application service for students applying to veterinary school. [1] Created by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) in 1995, VMCAS handles applications for most of the veterinary schools in the United States, as well as several in Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.
The AAVMC has multiple key advocacy priorities. They work to ensure support for the Veterinary Services Grant Program.This program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) via the Farm Bill, provides financial support for the expansion of rural veterinary practices, mobile veterinary practices, and to recruit additional veterinarians and students to these practices.
Credentialed veterinary nurses can pursue specialized training in one of 16 NAVTA/CVTS approved academies that specialize in subjects such as dentistry, ophthalmology, or internal medicine. Post-nominal titles typically include the specialty academy's abbreviation to indicate subject (e.g., Jane Doe, LVTS, ADVT).
