In 1953 Camp King was assigned to the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade. The post was still used as an interrogation center, but also assumed intelligence duties as a command center for many field offices in Europe. [12] The post was a major intelligence center for the European Theater. The unit supported many field offices throughout Germany.
Kerr enlisted as a private at Fort Ord on September 21, 1953, and served in the 513th Military Intelligence Group in Germany after the Korean War. After leaving Active Army service, Kerr served in the U. S. Army Reserve and was commissioned a first lieutenant in June 1960.
