Bridgeport is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. [4] The CDP had a population of 6,571 at the 2020 census . [ 2 ] The community is located within Bridgeport Township .
Bridgeport Township was established in 1848. A sawmill was built there in 1849. By the mid-1860s there was also a shingle mill, three shingle factories and a salt well.By the 1880s the area had shifted to farming with the only mill being a grist mill built in 1878 by John and Martin Messner.
The Schmidt Site, also designated 20SA192, is an archaeological site located just south of the Cass River near Bridgeport, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. [1]

[1] The site was a burial location dating from the Middle Woodland period. [3] In 1970, workers encountered human remains while excavating sand from private property at this site.
