Sioux Falls (/ ˌ s uː ˈ f ɔː l z / SOO FAWLZ) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of South Dakota and the 118th-most populous city in the United States. It is the county seat of Minnehaha County [10] and also extends into northern Lincoln County.
The Sioux Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of four counties in South Dakota and one county in Minnesota, anchored by the city of Sioux Falls. The metro area is referred to locally as the Sioux Empire.
The Village of Sioux Falls, consisting of 1,200 acres (4.9 km 2), was incorporated in 1876 by the 12th legislative assembly of the Dakota Territory, which convened in the territorial capital of Yankton. The village charter proved to be too restrictive, however, and Sioux Falls petitioned to become a city.
Sioux Falls College became the University of Sioux Falls in 1995. Mark Benedetto became the 22nd president in 1997. He was succeeded by Brett Bradfield who became the 23rd president in 2017 after working at the University for 16 years. In 2008, USF received a $2 million Title III grant from the Department of Education to start a nursing program.
