The first Beatles Christmas fan-club disc to be recorded by the individual Beatles separately, the 1968 offering is a collage of odd noises, musical snippets and individual messages. McCartney's song "Happy Christmas, Happy New Year" is featured, along with Lennon's poems "Jock and Yono" and "Once Upon a Pool Table".
A planned release in 1984 faltered after the abandonment of the Beatles' then-upcoming album Sessions. Apple released a shortened version of the song in December 1995 as the B-side to the song "Free as a Bird". The 1967 version was re-issued on The Christmas Records, a 2017 limited-edition box set of the band's original Christmas records.
The Beatles released seven consecutive Christmas records on flexi disc for members of their UK and US fan clubs, from 1963 to 1969, ranging in length between 3:58 and 7:48. These short collections had a mix of spoken and musical messages for their official fan clubs.

1962–1966, also known as the Red Album, is a compilation album of songs by the English rock band the Beatles, spanning the years indicated in the title.Released with its counterpart 1967–1970 (the "Blue Album") in 1973, the double LP peaked at number 3 in the United Kingdom.
According to EMI, the series was a re-promotion rather than a reissue campaign, since all the Beatles' singles had remained in print and were widely available. [5] The project resulted from the success of the 1973 double-album sets 1962–1966 and 1967–1970, [6] which the former Beatles had endorsed, and which contained all of their British single A-sides and double A-side tracks. In July 1963, the Beatles performed "Matchbox" with Ringo Starr, Best's replacement, on lead vocals [9] for their BBC radio show Pop Go the Beatles. [10] This version was included on the 1994 compilation Live at the BBC. [11] Starr also sang lead vocals when the band recorded the song for their Long Tall Sally EP in 1964.
The album was released on CD on 26 February 1987, in mono, as were their three subsequent albums, With the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale. It was not released on vinyl or tape in the US until five months later when it was issued for the first time in the US on LP and cassette on 21 July 1987.
