Beginning in 2004, RT put up an annual concert event called, "Ripe Tomatoes", featuring up to 30 OPM bands playing back-to-back on a single night. In 2006, a corporate decision was made to rename 99.5 RT to HiT FM starting in January 2007. Thus, at midnight on December 18, 2006, the station signed off as the original iteration of 99.5 RT.

In March 2006, the station returned on air as Rock 990, adopting the Classic Rock format. At that time, the studios were moved to Makati. Its music formula started off as an experimental program on its Cebu's sister radio station Y101 as an inspiration by Martha Tuason, and eventually led into the decision to re-open this station.

On October 1, 1985, the station started carrying the call letters DWKY and rebranded as KY 91.5.Headed by Al Torres (formerly from 99.5 RT, later a voiceover of GMA from 1993 to 2025), it carried a broad based Top 40 format, playing well-crafted music from Mondays to Saturdays, as well as oldies music during Sundays.
